Cover Illustration: A large Darlingtonia fen near Eight Dollar Mountain, Josephine County, Oregon, USA. Darlingtonia fens occur on serpentine seeps in the Siskiyou Mountains of Oregon and southward into the Sierra Nevada. These threatened wetlands host several species of carnivorous plants and a number of other federally endangered endemic plant species. Ellison and Farnsworth analyzed photosynthetic rates, tissue nutrient content, and morphology of endemic Darlingtonia californica and suggested that carnivorous plants deviate substantially from generalized spectra of leaf traits in: The cost of carnivory for Darlingtonia californica (Sarraceniaceae): evidence from relationships among leaf traits, pp. 1085-1093 in this issue.
