ERRATUM

Am J Bot2005;92(8):1294–1310Vol. 92(8): 1294–1310. In "Welwitschiaceae from the Lower Cretaceous of Northeastern Brazil," by Dilcher et al., the genus name used in the paper, Welwitschiella, is illegitimate due to an earlier legitimate homonym, Welwitschiella O. Hoffm., in Engler and Prantl, Nat. Pflanzenfam. 4(5): 390. 1894. We regret this error and propose the new generic name Priscowelwitschia for Welwitschiella Dilcher et al. (2005) non O. Hoffm. (1894) nec Engler (1899). This new generic name should be applied to the fossil material described in the paper cited above. Here we propose for that material the new combination Priscowelwitschia austroamericana. The Latin Priscus means of former times or ancient.

TYPE: Priscowelwitschia austroamericana (Dilcher et al.) Dilcher et al. (see below).
